L\u2019interesse verso l\u2019utilizzo dei refrigeranti idrocarburi (HC), cos\u00ec come per tutti gli altri refrigeranti naturali (ammoniaca, anidride carbonica), ha avuto origine da quando si \u00e8 scoperto che i fluidi CFC e HCFC risultano essere dannosi per l\u2019ozono atmosferico mentre quelli HFC contribuiscono in maniera piuttosto considerevole all\u2019effetto serra. Diversamente, l\u2019utilizzo dei refrigeranti naturali non comporta problemi per l\u2019ambiente.
\nEssi non contengono n\u00e9 cloro n\u00e9 fluoro, essendo costituiti unicamente da carbonio e idrogeno. Da qui il loro progressivo affermarsi non solo come fluidi di lavoro negli impianti frigoriferi. Tuttavia l\u2019infiammabilit\u00e0 \u00e8 il grosso scoglio che non ha permesso a questi fluidi di essere accettati in maniera universale sul mercato. A favore, per\u00f2, dell\u2019utilizzo degli HC, giocano senz\u2019altro le buone propriet\u00e0 di trasporto del calore (fatto che richiede cariche ridotte di refrigerante) e la possibilit\u00e0 di utilizzo di oli di tipo minerale, che permette di evitare le problematiche connesse all\u2019umidit\u00e0 legate all\u2019utilizzo dei lubrificanti sintetici.<\/p>\n
